When your hot tub is commissioned, you are given lots of information about caring for your hot tub. It is easy to forget the instructions on how to perform a hot tub water change. Every 3-4 months, we recommend draining your hot tub and refilling it with fresh water.
You will find that towards the end of this period, the water is harder to keep balanced.
We have made a short video on how to perform a hot tub water change. Sorry for the sound quality. It was rather windy. You will also find written instructions below the video.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin draining your spa, please isolate the power and make sure it is switched off.
There are two ways to drain the water from your hot tub: by allowing gravity to drain the water out of the in-built drain valve (as in the video), or by using a submersible pump. Using a submersible pump will dramatically reduce the time it takes to empty the Jacuzzi hot tub, but it is not essential. If you are having problems locating the drain valve on your hot tub, please call us on 02476 639147.
While the water is draining, remove the filters and put them to soak in filter cleaner solution. We recommend leaving them in the solution overnight. Sometimes this is not possible, so a minimum of 1 hour is recommended. Some customers like to have a spare set of filters and alternate them.
When the water has drained out, we recommend using a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive surface cleaner to remove any tide marks on the acrylic and to clean behind the headrests.
When you are ready to refill the spa begin filling with a hosepipe through the filter housing to prevent an air lock. After a little water has trickled out of the drain valve, tighten the drain valve back up. Remove the hosepipe from the filter housing and insert the clean filters once the water level is above the bottom set of jets. You can add your normal amount of water sanitiser now. If you are doing this for the first time, start with 1-2 tablets and wait until the water is to its set temperature before testing to see if this is the correct amount for your hot tub.
Please do not turn the power back on to the hot tub until the water level is above the top set of jets.
Your Jacuzzi should prime itself and start without any problems. If you experience any error messages or problems, please call us on 02476 639147.
