Weekly hot tub maintenance

To enable you to continue to enjoy your hot tub in a safe way, it is important that you keep the water in your hot tub sanitised and your filters clean.

When you first own a hot tub, the thought of keeping the water clean can be very daunting. You will soon get into a routine, and like riding a bike, it will become second nature.

We recommend testing the sanitiser level in your hot tub every 3-4 days, or during periods of heavy usage, daily. The colours on the test strip will indicate if your spa needs to have any hot tub chemicals added to prevent bacteria forming.

When my Jacuzzi needs chlorine or bromine added, I place 3 tablets in the floating dispenser - 9 times out of 10 when the sanitiser level is in the OK range, so is the ph level & hardness level. I always check the other levels a day after I have replenished the sanitiser for this reason. If the ph or hardness levels do need adjusting, experience has shown that 3 small capfuls or one level capful on the larger tubs will bring the level up or down one notch on the test strip. It can be a bit of trial and error though. If you need advice, please call one of our hot tub showrooms.

Once a week, it is important to remove the filters and hose them off & spray them with the filter cleaner. The filters work very hard - especially if you use Aquafinesse - so keeping them clean will prolong their life slightly.

Please test the chemicals in your hot tub when the water is up to temperature, the requirement is different if the water is cold to when it is hot.

We are always pleased to answer any questions that you may have. You may find your chemical usage is different from mine, but this should give you a starting point to work from.
